Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Believe it or not this day has flown by. Maybe it's because I have to leave at 3:30 to go check on one of our workers in another office. Anyway, the dress I'm wearing today is probably the most comfortable dress that I own. I saw someone wearing it on another blog, and I immediately went to ebay and bid on one. It's a wrap style, and I'm a huge sucker for anything with a leafy pattern. I love it so much that when I went to a CAbi outlet in NJ I bought the same exact dress (for $23!!!) just in case something happens to this one. Seriously, I can be a nut. I might end up selling the second one on ebay.

The necklace and ring are also quite special to me. The ring was bought when I was in Milwaukee in October of 2008 for some testing. It was at this thrift store (I think it was called Downtown Thrift or something; the place is pretty famous around Milwaukee). I saw it and I thought well, I'll try it on and hopefully it won't fit. But obviously it did fit, and it's lovely. The stone is a NY Mystic Topaz (I think) and it's flanked by 3 tiny diamonds on each side. The "K" necklace is my most recent gift from my friend's Ireland visit, so of course that has meaning to me as well.

Sidenote-Do my pictures look blurry to anyone else? I know the first few I posted were blurry, but I though the rest looked alright. D tells me otherwise. Let me know!

Saturday, June 27 and Monday, June 29, 2009

Well I had a fantastic weekend and I think I've gained back all of the weight I have inactively lost in the past month. But, I made it out of my pajamas both days! You only get pictures from Saturday. :) D, a friend, and myself went to a new (to us) Irish bar on Saturday and it was nice. There were only a handful of people, you can drive it, and there's free parking right next door. So I hope to go back soon.

For some reason I think I look a bit crazy in this picture. I think D said something that threw me off right before he snapped the picture. Also, this is the first time I've worn this dress. It's been in my closet for about 3 years now, and I bought it because a) it was so soft!, b) I love the pattern, and c) it was on super clearance. Also, it's a petite instead of regular, so I've always felt like it would be too short without something underneath. But I was feeling daring! I also love this necklace. There used to be a website called Marc & Pearl, and they specialized in marcasite and pearl jewelry. I bought a couple things when they had their great sales, but otherwise they were pretty pricey. Well, they had a "going out of business" sale and all of their stuff was well priced, plus you got an extra 70%-80% off. So I ordered quite a few things, this gorgeous onyx necklace being one of the items. And the black cardigan? I may have that in 2 other colors.....

Black short-sleeved cardigan: Target ($7.49, May 2009)
Floral sundress: Ann Taylor Loft ($9.88, 3 years ago)
Green lace tank: Old Navy ($5, 2009)
Black onyx necklace: Marc & Pearl ($25, 2009)
Black sandals: Frye via ebay (2009)
Silver bracelet: Target ($25, June 2009)

And this is what I'm wearing today:

I had to edit this photo a bit because my face rivaled the sun in the brightness factor, but I think you get the idea. I won this dress on ebay and I've had it for a couple weeks. Today is supposed to be hot so I thought this would be nice and flowy. Would you believe that I used to hate wearing dresses? Yet another benefit of looking at other fashions. And this bracelet that you cannot see is adorable and I love it. It is stretchy and it has hummingbirds and feathers etched into the chunky silver. Also, I've gotten a bunch of compliments on this outfit today. That always makes me feel good.

Purple multi-strand necklace: NY & Co ($6, 2009)
Black dress: Old Navy via Ebay ($18, June 2009)
Gray tank: NY & Co ($10, December 2008)
Purple belt: NY & Co ($14, June 2009)
Silver sandals: Target ($15?, Summer 2008)
Silver bracelet: Target ($25, June 2009)

Friday, June 26, 2009

In retrospect, I think this week has gone by pretty quickly. I'm also giving myself a pat on the back for remembering to take a picture every morning before work. One day, I'll hopefully be coordinated enough to include my accessories.

Before venturing into the world of fashion blogs, I never would have thought to wear a wide belt higher on my waist. It makes so much sense now, but whenever I saw the wide belts in the store I would wonder how I would ever fit them into my belt loops and if they would fit around my ample hips. But I am a convert, and I love this particular braided belt. I also bought one in black since they were on sale at NY & Co. :)

I'm still not sure if I'm going to put up weekend pictures. I guess it will depend on whether or not I make it out of pajamas. :)

So my outfit today was:
Yellow cardigan: Ann Taylor Loft ($30, 2008)
Brown print shirt: Ann Taylor Loft (years ago)
Brown braided belt: NY & Co ($14, June 2009)
Trouser jeans: NY & Co ($20, 2008)
Yellow sandals: Target ($15, May 2009)
Gold multi-strand necklace: Ann Taylor (years ago)

Thursday, June 25, 2009

I don't mix patterns (today is the first day I've tried it) and I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I love it on other people, but for me I remain unconvinced. For instance, I would normally wear these pants with a solid colored shirt and black shoes. But it can't hurt me to try, right?

This necklace actually means a lot to me (as do the earrings). A friend of mine is from Ireland and whenever she goes back to visit she brings me back a present from this jewelry place in Dublin. So far she's given me 2 necklaces and earring sets and I absolutely adore them.

Sidenote-I am slowly adding links to the fashion blogs that I enjoy reading. I don't know if there is some sort of blog etiquette to follow when it comes to linking, but I've just been emailing the blog owner and telling them that I read their blog and I've added a link to it, and if they want to link mine that would be great. So there's that.

Purple patterned top: Ann Taylor Loft ($20, 2009)
Grey herringbone pants: NY & Co ($20?, 2008)
Black sandals: Coconuts via DSW ($20, 2008)

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Today's picture comes to you from the great outdoors. I have a couple inside shots but I didn't like how they turned out. And today I actually remembered to include my bag. I think I was searching for "bird bags" on ebay and I came across this gorgeous print. I get compliments on this bag every time I use it and I do love it. Someone told me that it originally came as a free gift with a perfume purchase.

Turquoise earrings and necklace: Urban Accents (a little shop in Milwaukee; May 2009)
Crossover ring: HSN via Ebay ($20, 2007 or 2008)
Pink top: Gap Outlet ($7, June 2009)
White lace tank: Old Navy ($5, 2009)
Brown pants: NY & Co ($15, May 2009)
Brown wedge heels: Unlisted by Kenneth Cole (bought years ago)
Bird Bag: Cacharel Perfums via Ebay ($12, 2007)

Tuesday, June 23, 2009

As you can probably tell, I'm still trying to figure out where the best pictures are taken. Maybe it's not the location, but the person in them that's the problem :)

Also, this shirt is not a favorite for me. It would have been donated long ago if D didn't like it so much. I feel like it hugs me in all the wrong places. I also have it in black, but for some reason I like that one better.

The pants were hemmed at least 2 inches by my mom while I was visiting last winter, and I have to say they are one of my favorite pairs to wear now that they're the right length. They are super soft and comfortable, and they have just the right amount of stretch to them. I am used to ordering tall sized pants but for some reason Ann Taylor Loft's tall pants are always super long. But their regular pants are too short on me. So sometimes I beg my mom for some hemming help if I see a tall pair on clearance :)

Black headband: Ann Taylor Loft ($5; 2007 or 2008)
Silver earrings, necklace, and bracelet: Lia Sophia via Ebay (2008/2009)
Silver watch: gifted from my mom
Rings: (two outside ones are part of a set from QVC and the inside one is a white gold diamond ring gifted from D)
Shirt: Ann Taylor Loft ($20; 2008)
Black pants: Ann Taylor Loft ($20; 2009)
Black shoes: Naturalizer Outlet ($40; June 2009)

Tonight D and I went out to dinner with a girl that I recently met. We had a very nice time :)

Well, hello there.

After I started following various fashion blogs I decided I wanted one of my own. I get very excited about my finds and purchases, and what better way to share them than with fellow readers?

So this blog will be my attempt to show you what I put together each day. Well, hopefully daily. I make no promises. :) I am also interested in documenting what I wear over a period of time, and I'd like to use that to pick up different styles and learn new ways of putting together different pieces. I would never claim to be the epitome of style (I usually lean towards a conservative ensemble) but I would love to hear what others have to say about it.

So let me tell you a little bit about myself. I'm in my mid-twenties and I work in a rather laid-back office environment. With the exception of skimpy clothing, I would say that most things are acceptable. I can walk down the hall and see someone in a muumuu and flip flops, and then pass someone in a suit and tie. I feel like this gives me a lot of leeway to experiment.

As far as shopping goes, I love shopping for shoes and jewelry. I find a lot of good buys on ebay, and I have recently started exploring some of the thrift stores in the area.

So I hope your enjoy my posts as much as I enjoy creating them, and I look forward to sharing and branching out my style.
