timidly tuesday...

Good afternoon all,

Let me begin by saying thanks for the nice comments yesterday. It means a lot to know that other people are going through the same thing. :)

I keep telling myself to set the alarm 10 min. earlier so I can get some outdoor pictures before I leave for work but when you see my office in the background you know I've failed at waking up earlier.

So as you can see my bottom half missing from the shot, but let me assure you that you're not missing anything. The pants are my comfy pull-on ones from NY & Co and although they look black they're actually a dark gray with a herringbone pattern throughout. My shoes are just plain black naturalizer sandals with a little bit of height since the pants aren't quite short enough for flats.

Now for a change of subject...I've actually been avoiding talking about this because I'm annoyed. Remember my second order from ASOS? I got the the top and dress pictured below.

I was a little nervous because I went a size down for the top (they were sold out of the other sizes) and my normal size for the dress. The good news is, the top fits, Bad news is, the fabric shows every single bump and flaw and the color isn't all that flattering. But I'm keeping it because I think it could work under a cardigan (what doesn't work under a cardigan eh?)

The dress is a lost cause. It's way too tight and makes me feel like a sausage. See how it drapes nicely on the model? Well, not so much on other humans. Not to mention the weird construction of the dress. The lace part isn't even connected all the way around the dress so it's a bit confusing to put on or hang. Plus, even if I had gone a size up I don't think it would have worked. So my cousin (who is shorter and smaller than myself) is going to get it for Christmas. Because what else says "I love my family" like a sausage dress? Don't worry, she'll wear it. This is classy compared to her normal get-up (think of any female Jersey Shore character and you've got her pegged).

Anyway, I might be in the plus-size blogger minority here but I'm done ordering from ASOS Curve, no matter how much I love this dress.

this time next week I will be more relaxed...

Hi all,

I need to take a moment to vent. I'm in a style rut. I'm tired of dressing for the heat, or for feeling bloated, or for rain. I'm sick of my bangs getting stuck to my forehead in the heat and I can't stand when they're flat from humidity or ruffled by wind. Every day I just want to throw on something over-sized and comfortable and not put any effort into my appearance. If I owned any hats I would be wearing them now. Last week featured all jeans every day (Monday's was a jean skirt) because I just didn't feel like stuffing myself into pants or dealing with dresses.

Sometimes it's hard for me to remember that although my work is very casual, I do feel better when I put some sort of effort into my appearance. Not to mention the followers I would lose here if I started dressing in jersey pants and t-shirts every day. ;)

Anyway, I guess what I'm saying (in a very roundabout way...I got about 3 hours of sleep last night) is thanks for reading, and although I'm in a rut now my goal is to be back to "normal" by the beginning of next week. Thanks for sticking with me folks.

we're all friends here...

Good afternoon all,

Are you getting tired of my parrot backdrop yet? D has been leaving early for work, while I have been sleeping later, which results in pictures during my lunch hour. By the time I get myself back to waking up earlier it will be too dark outside to take pictures in the morning :)

I'm loving these shoes (although my left pinky toe is sort of not on board with them). I went to DSW for a gift card and of course, against my better judgment, walked back to the clearance section and found these brown crocodile sandals. I couldn't resist!

Happy Friday!

Hi all,

It's still a crazy day at work so I'm going to make this short. I'm wearing my Clarks sandals (yes, again) and I just wanted to admit that I now own every color. Amazon is having a 25% off sale on sandals (the prices are already pretty good) and I bought the three remaining colors that I had yet to own. Interested? Click here.

Also, the back of this cardigan is full of win. I love it. The parrot agrees.

working through wednesday...

Hi all,

Sorry for the absence yesterday. I promise I wasn't wearing anything exciting, and my lack of excitement totally carried into today. I'm taking advantage of how casual my office can be :) Also, I haven't been in a dress-wearing mood. I'm sure it will pass.

I didn't get a great shot of today's shoes, so they're pictured below. I really like them, but the straps are tight and digging into my feet, which is disconcerting. Hopefully they'll stretch out with use/time.

I hope you all have a great day!

it doesn't feel like a Monday today...

Hi all,

Today doesn't feel like a Monday, but that's probably because I went into work on Saturday afternoon for a few hours (exciting!) Not that I'm complaining of course, it's a job and sometimes I like it, but as a result today doesn't feel like a Monday.

This top makes me feel like I'm wearing an ocean (or a marble). And I think this skirt is going to go in the ebay pile. I just don't like how I look in it. Marble shirt is a keeper though :)

That's all I've got for today. Hope you all have a good one.

confetti fun!

(mental note-don't take pictures of pasty white ladies in front of an even more pasty white vinyl siding...oopsies)

Good morning all,

Let's take a moment to talk about Target.**  Like so many of you, I love that store. I walk in for milk and cookies and walk out with half a wardrobe and a crying wallet. But I've always had reservations about Target's pants. You see, I have never fit into them. I've tried sizing up, down, and around and they have always fit badly at any size for me. This isn't a new problem-I haven't purchased pants from Target in quite some time. So a couple weeks ago I was browsing through their clearance clothing (milk and cookies forgotten) and I came across what they called "premium shaping" jeans, or something of that nature. Since I adore Calvin Klein's shape jeans but hate the price, I figured I would give Target's jeans a try. Imagine my surprise when they fit! They're the right length for flats or a small heel, a great wash, and they don't gape at the waist like so many pants seem to do on me. The best part? The $21 price tag. It looks like they're still full price on the website ($30, click here if you're a lucky size 20 or 22) but I nabbed two pairs of 'em in-store and today marks their debut. So tell me ladies, where do you buy your favorite jeans?

Tonight the boy and I are going to a friend's birthday party. I think sushi and bowling are on the agenda, and I'm debating what to wear. I guess skirts and dresses are out if I'm hurling 10 lbs down a wooden plank. I hope you all have a lovely Friday!

PS-None of today's outfit was bought online! Inconceivable! Also, unplanned!

PPS-Have you checked out the awesome give-away at My Wardrobe Today/BlogHer? Click here to check it out!

**No, Target didn't ask me to write a review or compensate me in any way. Although I wouldn't mind it if they did because I spend half my salary there anyway. So if you're reading this almighty Target masters, call me!

I'm a window you're the frame...

Good morning all,

Do you all do a lot of clothes shopping online? I get a lot of noise from my family about my online shopping because they don't understand how I can be sure if things will fit, what the return policies are, or in ebay's case, if the clothing is in good used condition (nevermind the fact that most of my family can walk into a store and wear something straight off the hanger, so they never have to worry about finding their size). Most of the time I feel like I am able to find things that fit me well based on the measurements provided or the retailer's size chart. Other times, like yesterday, I find myself wondering why I bother ordering online. See exhibit A:

Cute, right? It was a new with tags tunic, in a very lovely peacock print, which I just had to have. I went by the measurements provided and figured it would fit alright. It arrived yesterday and when I put it on it hangs like a giant potato sack. The drawstring hits me at the largest part of my stomach, and it looks far shorter below the drawstring than it does in the picture. And you know what really stinks? I can't even say it was really cheap. I paid $25 for the darn top (although it is new and originally retailed for $75, but still....) Of course I'll resell it on ebay, but it still annoys me Thanks Christy!!!. Do you all have any similar experiences? I'd love to hear about them :)

Anyway, today's outfit is an example of a successful online shopping experience. Everything but the jewelry was bought online. If I could hem I would shorten the dress just a tad, but I'm still ok with it :)

Happy Thursday!

bend your arms to look like wings...(funeral for a friend)

Good morning all,

After spending far too much time taming my bangs this morning I had to run through a heavy downpour to get into my building which of course, obliterated all my hard hair work :)

So I'm thinking about ebaying this dress. I love the pattern, but I feel like I have to wear something over it because the pattern is just so loud. I do like that it has almost every color in it so matching is pretty easy. But I have a lot of dresses, and why not keep the ones I really love?

D suggested the pose below, and I find it rather hilarious, but he said it's a keeper, so here it stays. I hope you all have a great Wednesday!

today is a day of new things...

Hi all,

I'm showing off a few new-to-me items today. I received this dress courtesy of ebay, the tank during my Faith 21 adventure, and the ring is from the QVC outlet. I wish we had a QVC outlet around here but it definitely makes it more special to only go once a year.

I don't have much else to say (and it's rather busy here at work) so I hope you all have a great day!

When asked how today is going I've replied, "It's a Monday"...

(Saturday afternoon outfit)

Hi all,

I've had quite a busy weekend (by my standards). Saturday afternoon I met up with a fun and lovely group of women from an online community, and we had lunch and shopped in one of the larger malls in the area. I wanted to be comfortable so I wore jeans and one of my new favorite cardigans (yes, I have this in every color offered; don't judge). I also decided to debut my new purse find from T. J. Maxx. It was only $20 (and I had a $19.99 credit, so really, a penny!)

During our shopping expedition we went into a Forever 21, which had most of the back corner dedicated to their plus size line, Faith 21. Since I had never been in one (I've only ordered online) I took 12 things to try on but ended up buying the denim dress you see below. Since I was headed out to a party later that night I decided to wear the dress right away. It looks like denim but it's really a soft stretchy material that was quite comfortable.

So that leaves us at today, the ever eventful Monday. I had this outfit picked out for Friday of last week but I got lazy and pushed it up to this week. Do you all ever change your minds about your outfit choices?

Happy Monday!

ASOS improvements...

Since I'm home sick there won't be an outfit post today, but I did want to take a moment to talk about ASOS (again).**

Remember when I reviewed my last purchase from ASOS? I wasn't too happy about the fit, I would have liked to have known each model's height, and it annoyed me that I would have to pay for shipping both ways. So I pretty much took them off the list for my plus-size fashion needs. Well, last week I went back to their site just to poke around and see the sales. There were a few things I liked, but the shipping dissuaded me. Then I saw the banner at the top proclaiming free shipping and free returns to the U.S. Interesting, yes? Then I went to a newer product detail page, and I saw that they have started listing the model's height. Since they only use 2-3 people it was easy to figure out how some of their dresses would fall on me, even if the height wasn't mentioned in each and every listing (it looks like it's in the newer items).

With the free shipping both ways and the great sale prices, I decided to give ASOS another chance. Here are the two things I ordered:
Both the top and the dress were $13.48 each, which I can't argue about. Plus, if they don't fit I can send them back free of charge. Another added bonus? I got 3.5% back via Ebates. Score! In the interest of full disclosure, if you click on that link it will send you to Ebates via my referral and I will get credit for it.

I hope you all have an amazing Friday!

**ASOS did not contact me or give me anything to write this review. I don't think they even know about this blog. Just like the first time around, I paid with my own hard-earned cash and chose to write about it on my own without any outside motivation.

full of little details...

Hi all,

We had a terrible storm this morning and it threw everything off for the day. When I lived in FL rain didn't seem to have the effect that it does up here. Then again if it snowed the slightest bit in south Florida I'm sure panic would ensue.

Some of you may have noticed that I've added a FormSpring box on the top right of the page. If you've ever wanted to ask me something you can ask through there and you have the option of staying anonymous. Of course you can always email me as well.

Have a good Thursday!

My heart isn't in this. I'm supposed to be a seasoned fighter...(rainer maria)

Good morning lovelies,

I went through at least 4 dresses and 2 other outfits before finally deciding on what you see this morning. We have a large meeting at work today so I decided to go for a conservative pants type deal. In this particular instance I don't think the dress code really matters, but it makes me feel better to wear something I'll be comfortable with. Do you all have any go-to outfits when you have a big meeting?

You know what would have looked stellar with this outfit? The navy polka dot flats I mentioned at the bottom of this post. Unfortunately I had to return them because a 9 was too big and the 8.5s were too small. Too bad they don't make an 8 3/4 or something. I did end up keeping the turquoise flower sandals (they're still available, click here if you're interested) and I can't wait to wear them with one of my dresses.

I hope you all have a great Wednesday!

Empty fields move me so much more than rooms filled up with friends...(bayside)

Good morning all,

I woke up this morning swearing it was Thursday, and looking forward to having the weekend so close. Then Tuesday hit me in the face. *le sigh*

I tried to grab a picture of myself in the car. I'm not wearing anything exciting today, just this shirt with my wonderful calvin klein jeans and my black fishtail sandals.

Since my recent decision to get bangs I've been struggling with how to deal with them in the humidity. Over the weekend instead of blow drying them with a big round brush I tried using my straightening iron at it's highest setting and ending up frying them. This morning I tried it with the iron 100 degrees cooler and my bangs turned out exactly like I hoped they would. Although I have to say, it's very hard for me to wield a 350 degree instrument at 7am (I'm already not-so-graceful), especially when it's already 80 degrees outside.

I hope you all have a great non-Thursday!

this summer is flying by...

(click any photo to enlarge)

Good morning everyone,

I feel like the time has just flown by. I mean, everything...the year, the months, the summer itself, this past weekend. Except the weekdays themselves. Those seem sort of long, especially around 2pm on Tuesdays (it's like really, another 3 days until the weekend?) Anyway, I'm not too sad about summer coming to a close with the heat and all, but of course it also means that I won't see my mom for another 5 or 6 months, the next beach trip is way too far away (fingers crossed that it still happens), and I haven't even started my holiday shopping. Last year I was much more organized and had most of my gifts bought by mid October :) Does summer bring any of your activities to an end?

So let's talk clothes. I own at least 8 skirts, and I hardly ever wear them. This one often catches my eye, but then I think "ugh, skirt" and go with a dress instead. Well skirt, today is your lucky day. For some reason this black top also gets overlooked in my outfit planning. Wearing it has reminded me how much I love the button detailing on the shoulders.

(this is the accidental "I'm a little, er big, teacup" outtake)

I hope you all have a lovely Monday!

finally, the end (of another week).

Hi everyone,

Interesting fact-Yesterday's outfit was a hit at the car dealership. I got 3 compliments from 3 different men that said they loved the colors and that I looked really great. I totally should have worn a dress when we were actually buying the car.

I'm so happy to see this week finally end. My coworker is back in town, my car should be ready today, and sleeping in is actually a possibility tomorrow. :) Do you all have any weekend plans?

the beginning of a long day

(click any photo to enlarge)

Hi all,

I wanted something easy and breezy to wear today because I feel like it's going to be a long one, and this dress fit the bill (also, I'm a walking Target ad today). As I was going through my closet last night I took note of all the boots and got excited about fall all over again. I'm really not a summer person, although I love wearing sandals. :)

I hope you all have a lovely Tuesday!

(click any photo to enlarge)

Good morning everyone,

During our Rehoboth trip I made a stop at the Ann Taylor Outlet and I managed to spend a large chunk of my budget while I was there. I was hoping to find some cute dresses but instead I got 2 patterned tops, 2 cardis, 2 cowl neck tops, and 2 tank tops (including today's tank).

Outlet stores can be so hit and miss for me (not that I consider this past trip a miss). When I was in New Jersey for work I found so many great things at both the Ann Taylor and the Loft outlet.  Do you all have luck at the outlets?

Hope your Wednesday goes well!

falling through the cracks...

Hi all,

I bought this top on ebay last month and I've been really looking forward to wearing it. Normally I'll "watch" something on ebay for at least a day before buying it but this top was an impulse purchase and I don't regret it in the slightest. Do you all have a waiting period when you're considering a purchase?

I hope your Tuesday goes well!

(click any photo to enlarge)
 Good afternoon all,

It has been an insane day at the office so my update will be a little late. The crooked pictures are courtesy of my mom, and I wanted to make sure I included my brand spankin' new car! :) After 5+ hours at the car dealership I'm now a proud and happy Honda owner, which is a first since my family has bought Nissans for the past 20 years. But this isn't  a car blog, so let's get on to the outfit.
