oh to be entertaining (with an update!)

(The creepy hummel figurines are not mine, I promise!)

Today is that always special day, casual Friday! I switched my outfit around this morning, which made for rather boring pictures, but I'm comfortable and enjoying the last day of a busy week.

On a different note- I have a ton of clothing (and I'm guilty of not wearing all of it) so I sell items on ebay and I consign with a local shop about once a month. Well, this past Wednesday I went for my monthly drop-off and picked up my check, and it was for $80! I've been doing pretty well with the consignment shop for the past couple months and it makes me feel good to get something back for items I don't wear often enough. The consignment shop gives the seller half of whatever the item sells for, which isn't bad. If an item doesn't sell they donate it to a local shelter, which I can totally live with. I've looked into other consignment shops in the area and this one definitely benefits me the most. I also sold some jewelry and a dress on ebay this past week and made a nice amount so hopefully it will help make up for my overspending last month :) Do you all have experience selling off items you don't wear anymore? I'd love to hear about them.

Have a great weekend!

**Update:
So I was in the kitchen nuking my lunch and my coworker walked in with this adorable green top and a black flower pin. I was telling her how much I loved it, and how I want to get more into wearing accessories, and she gave it to me! Apparently she has two of them. So, coworker, you have made my day!

a million little pieces...

(click photo to enlarge)

The day has only just begun and I'm totally ready for it to be over. I really would have given anything to sleep in this morning.

Anyway, this is the other dress I bought for a fabulous price during my awesome night at Lane Bryant. It's a slightly heavier dress, and I figured between the cool mornings and indoor job I wouldn't get too hot wearing it. I love the navy with the pink. I tried this dress on when it was full price to see how much I liked it, and though "eh." But then it went on sale for $30 I became slightly more interested. Throw in some extra coupons and I'm sold! Do you all become more interested in items when they go on sale? It's hard for me to pay full price for most things (clothing-wise at least).

I hope you all have a lovely Thursday!

Hi all,

I'd like to introduce you to my new favorite dress of the day. I got it off of ebay, and it's dresses like this that make me so happy that sites like ebay exist. I love everything about it...the colors, the way the neckline gets pulled back like two little curtains, and most of all, I love the way it fits.

Have you all put your winter clothes away? I still need to stick some moth guards in my bags, but other than that everything is packed up and ready to be forgotten for another 6 months. :) I should also mention that it was at least 30 degrees out this morning and we had a frost warning!

the eternal debate of what to wear...

Hi all,

I couldn't figure out what to wear last night. It's not like my closet isn't bursting at the seams, but I just wasn't enthused by anything I put on. Do you ever have days like that? Hopefully tonight will be more successful :)

Also, I slept in a little this morning so I was rushed to take my pictures. The huge dog was out next door so of course I couldn't take them outside. I thought the indoor pic next to the door would turn out better, but I always forget that light coming from behind isn't always the best way to shoot a photo. So please excuse the brightening of the second picture. Besides, I just liked the pose :)

I keep thinking today is Wednesday, but it's not. So I hope you all have a good Tuesday!

finally at the end of a stressful week.

This is the outfit I had in mind when I talked about reserving things for casual Fridays. In an effort to use accessories I added my flower pin :) Does anyone else get nervous about sticking holes in their clothing? I know they're small, but it still pains me to do it. This cardigan has actually been in and out of my thift/ebay pile ever since I bought it, and I actually tried to give it to my coworker but it was too long on her. I'm glad I ended up keeping it :) I just realized you can't see my awesome shoes, so if you're interested they're here.

I ran a few errands after work yesterday and ended up at DSW. I received a post card that said I could get a free tote bag and beach towel with a $25 purchase so I figured I would go in and have a look. I ended up finding these flats in black, which I wanted to order online but they sold out of my size before I could get them. So, yay! The sales woman told me I got the last tote bag/towel (at least from her register), which made me happy that I stopped by the first day of the promotion.

I hope you all have a lovely Friday!

foggity fog fog...

(click photo to enlarge)
There were a couple factors going against my picture-taking this morning. Fog, curious neighbors, and my cat trying to run out the front door had me a little distracted.

So I've been thinking about something a lot lately, and that is: I have a tough time adding things to an outfit. I mean, I feel accomplished when I stick pants and a shirt together and add some jewelry (a prime example being today's outfit). I'm in awe of the beautiful bloggers that play with scarves, belts, jackets, and pins so easily. I own at least 20 scarves and I rarely wear them! On my darkest days I wonder if I should even have this blog because what I wear is so ordinary. Do any of you ever feel that way? Anyway, since this outfit didn't have much "oomph" I wore more makeup than normal (eyeliner, mascara, blush!, and a lip stain) to try and add some visual interest. I don't think I've donned this much makeup since prom! :)

On a happier note, have any of you been to Target lately? They have redone some of the Targets around here (yes, I frequent 3 of them) and their clearance sections have gotten so big and organized! For some reason the website doesn't have the same things on clearance, which is a bummer. Anyway, D went with me to Target last night to find a kickball (I joined my work's kickball team) and while I failed at finding a kickball I did find 4 different adorable dresses, all on clearance! But I showed restraint and didn't buy any of them. I have a bajillion dresses and they don't need more company.

We're almost to Friday!

these wooden ideas...

(click photo to enlarge)
Have you ever felt like you have to wear an outfit on a specific day? For instance, last night I put together two different outfits that I really liked, and then I put them away for future "casual Fridays." I mean, my company can be casual 24/7. I've seen everything from business casual to track pants on any given day. But when I dress myself, I (usually) still have this rigid idea that some looks are just meant for Fridays. Oh well. I guess they say to dress for the job you want. Even though I have no idea what job I would be striving for dress-wise :)

So why don't we talk about the outfit? I originally bought this cardigan in two colors and I returned the one color (light blue) because I convinced myself out of it. For a better shot of the embellishment click here. The tank is one I love but I often forget about (all of my tank tops are in a drawer so it's common for me to forget I have them). And the pants are in honor of the rain that's supposed to fall all day today.

We made it to the middle of the week. Hurrah!

feeling scandalous!

(click photo to enlarge)
Good morning all,

So I'm going to make a concerted effort not to complain that it's Monday. I looooooove Mondays! In honor of my Monday love I decided to paint my nails black and wear a dress that I know is way too short for work. But I think black tights make them work appropriate. I mean, it's not like I'm wearing leggings as pants. Not that there's anything wrong with that (it just doesn't work with my, um, rear). Anyway, do you all do anything to make your Mondays more pleasant?

I got this dress for under $15 when I had some Kohl's cash to spend. It was originally $35, I had $20 of KC to spend, and I inquired about a coupon that I had (but didn't bring with me) and the sales associate actually gave me the discount. That's some great customer service right there!

Speaking of customer service, the sales rep at the Stella & Dot jewelry party I went to on Friday was quite nice. I bought these two stacking rings in silver (see the second picture for the ones I got), which I'm looking forward to receiving sometime soon.

I hope the beginning of everyone's week goes well :)

another casual friday...

(click photo to enlarge)

Today did not start off well. After washing my face this morning I ran right into a large spider that had decided to make it's home in my bathroom. So I battled the spider with toilet paper and shrieking, lost said spider because I a) have bad aim when grabbing things with large wads of toilet paper and b) was scared shitless. Due to spider patrol and getting very little sleep I accidentally grabbed my body wash instead of my conditioner to put in my hair and. Now everything smells like BBW's Calm, which by the way, doesn't actually do any calming. But at least I smell good.

I don't have a lot to say about my outfit today, other than I really like it. My mom fixed a hole in this cardigan for me (ON's clothing is getting cheaper and cheaper yet I still buy it) and I love how the cardi looks over the coral top that I don't wear often enough. And these jeans are perfect for 2" or less heels. :) I wore them with flats last week and they really do look better with a little bit of a heel. I also painted my nails last night (Opi's Three Way Mirror; on sale for $5 at Sephora) and I love it so much that I think I'll use it on my toes the next time I splurge for a pedicure.

Tonight I'm going to a Stella & Dot party at my aunt's house, and I'm going to try and show some restraint. Their jewelry is really quite beautiful. Perhaps they will have some sort of trunk show special.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

too many options

(click photo to enlarge)
(click photo to enlarge)

Good morning all,

I know I talk about the weather a lot on this blog, but we are strangers and it's a comfortable topic. :) That being said, this weather is driving me batty. It's supposed to go up to 75 today so I figured this outfit would be fine, but I froze again this morning. Fortunately I keep a sweater in the trunk and actually used it to walk into work this time :) I don't recall the weather being so up and down last year, but as D is quick to remind me, it snowed in April last year.

So do you all think this dress is acceptable for work? I feel a little skimpy in it, although I think it's more of a "ugh knees" thing and I have to stop myself from pulling it down all the time. This might sound crazy but when I look at my knees I don't think they look as bad as they do in photographs. Perhaps it's because I'm looking down on them...Or maybe I really have lost it. Anyway, other than my knees I loved how the photos turned out today so you get the whole shoot :)

Back when I first bought the shoes I wore yesterday I checked out other shoes from the Clarks brand and I came across these on sale at Piperlime. They're not quite as comfortable as yesterday's shoes but I still really like them. Plus I really wanted a pair of cognac open-toed shoes, so these fit the bill.

I hope you all have a lovely day!

Have any of you ever eaten undercooked chicken? I don't suggest it. I was out sick yesterday due to my inability to see undercooked chicken before eating it... :)

So this is the outfit I had planned for yesterday and if I had known that it was going to be all of 40 degrees outside this morning I would have worn tights and boots. Instead I froze on my short walk from the parking lot to my office. Very smart indeed. At least these shoes are incredibly comfortable. I've been lucking out with shoes as of late.

I hope you all have a lovely middle-of-the-week day!

Why is it that on the weekends I wake up refreshed at 9:30am and when the workweek rolls around all I want to do is stay in bed? Granted I wake up a bit earlier than 9:30 but still....it shouldn't be so hard. :)

Today I wanted to mix black and brown because I don't often do that, and it made for a simple outfit. Also, this is the first time I've worn these loafers (for some reason I had trouble figuring out what to wear with them) and they're quite comfy.

a girl on your arm don't make you a man...(bayside)

Lately I've been thinking about making a shopping list of sorts for me to keep in mind when I'm out in retail land. In the upcoming months I may be visiting a few outlet centers and I think it would be helpful to at least have some idea of what I'm looking for, rather than wandering around and shopping all willy nilly :) Because let's face it, not a lot of people (including myself) can afford to buy whatever strikes their fancy, even at the outlet stores. So if you see a list somewhere on this blog that's probably what it is.

One of the things at the top of my mental list of wants has been a pair (or two) of jeans that I can wear with flats. Now, I have a bazillion jeans. Seriously. But I have three pairs I can successfully pair with flats, and one of the pairs is not appropriate for work (the other pair I wore yesterday). All the rest of my jeans are lengths meant to be worn with heels or high boots, which isn't really going to work for the summer months.

Enter Nordstrom. Yes, I know they're expensive. But as I've mentioned before, they have one of the nicest plus size selections I've come across. They're not as trendy as some of the other plus size retailers out there, and if you can find what you want on sale it's usually worth it. I know that anything I buy from them will get good use for at least the next couple of years. Plus you can return online orders to their retail stores or Nordstrom Rack, which is very convenient for me because there is one right down the road from my work.

Anyway, these are the jeans. I've seen good reviews for this particular brand before and at $29 I figured I would give them a shot. I'm so happy that I did. The jeans are a thinner material, they stretch (I ordered a size smaller than normal and they fit perfectly), and they are the perfect length for flats. As long as I don't absentmindedly shrink these in the dryer I plan on wearing them all throughout the summer.

By now you probably think Nordstrom is paying me to say these nice things. I assure you they're not. My blog is private, and you got here because you knew the direct link or you saw me on another blog. As far as I know, corporations are unaware of my blog existence, and I plan on keeping that way for the time being. If I'm raving about something it's because I paid for it myself and want to tell you about it.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend!

hello time bomb i'm ready to go off...

On days like today I'm so happy I work at a place with a very casual dress code. I don't know about everyone else but when I feel like a bloated sausage the last thing I want to do is play dress-up with a business casual wardrobe.

As I was trying to snap my outdoor pictures the next door neighbor let out their very large dog and he decided to bark at me the whole time. So I only got one shot before I went back inside to try my luck without waking up the neighborhood. The only picture that came out is this second one, and it amuses me for some reason.

I think my quest for the perfect pair of jeans to wear with flats has finally come to an end. I'll tell you more about it tomorrow :)

warmer weather is here...

(click on the pictures to enlarge)
You'll be hearing this too often in the upcoming weeks, but I hate hot weather. It made living in Florida a challenge for many years. When I moved up north I thought the heat would be more manageable, but no one told me that it would be a dry stale heat instead of swampy heat and really, they're about equal in crappiness. Today it's supposed to go up to 84, so I wanted the lightest amount of clothing without traumatizing my coworkers. I have this particular cardigan in 3 colors (surprised?) and I think I wore them almost 3 times a week for most of the summer before I started this blog. They're so light and comfortable...As for the bottom half I have been wanting a denim skirt and after trying quite a few on I settled on this one for it's dark wash and work appropriate length.

Sidenote-Most of my pictures can be enlarged/zoomed by clicking on the picture itself. Today's pictures are especially large because I didn't crop them. :)

turquoise on tuesday...

I got this dress in the mail last week and I've been trying to decide if I like it or not. The pattern is a bit busy, so I decided to go with a cardigan to hide some of the pattern :) I think the dress actually photographs better than just seeing it, if that makes sense.

cozy tops and platform shoes

Eleanor and the Fiery Furnaces

Graveyard scenery 1

Graveyard scenery 2

This past weekend was a pretty full one in terms of social events (compared to our normal routine). Friday night we went and saw one of D's favorite bands, the Fiery Furnaces, Saturday became our chore day, and Sunday we went over to my aunt's house for dinner. On the way to my aunt's house we stopped to see my grandfather (at the cemetery) and I couldn't resist taking some photos of the beautiful landscaping.

I didn't think of a great outfit today but I knew I wanted to wear these new shoes. I got them for a ridiculous price from Naturalizer (they have since sold out) and they are definitely the highest heels I can walk in (thank you platforms!) I think I'm well over 6 ft today :) I've also never worn this cardigan and I forgot I got it at such a steal.
