it's been a long 2 1/2 day week...

(click photo to enlarge)
Good morning everyone,

Even though I only worked for about 2.5 days this week it seems like the week has just been dragging so slowly. Tonight my grandmother and mom will be back from the beach and my mom is taking me car shopping on Sunday. To be honest I'm a bit nervous. What do you all have planned for the weekend?

Happy Friday!

Sleep now and dream of who you'll be...when you finally become someone.

Good morning all,

Today's picture is nothing special, so I'd like to take a moment to talk about my new shoes.

I've known about the Clarks brand for a while, but it wasn't until this past year that I really started wearing them. I've been watching this particular style on amazon for quite some time, and when I saw the tan pair (pictured above) at the Clarks outlet I decided to try them out. I ended up loving them so much that I went to another Clarks outlet on the way back to MD and bought them in two other colors. They are so incredibly comfortable, and the leather is buttery soft.

In other shoe news, I got my Piperlime order yesterday and a certain someone was very excited about the box.

I'm still undecided about the Piperime order, so I'll save my opinions for another time.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thursday!

coming home has never been so difficult...

Hi all!

I'm back from our lovely beach trip and honestly, I've never been this sad about coming home. Normally while I'm on vacation I'm pretty excited about the trip home, sleeping in my own bed, and getting back into my routine. Then again my normal "vacation" is going down to FL to visit with my parents. I wasn't even this sad last year when we went down to Rehoboth. This beach trip was completely different. I want nothing more than to hop in the car and drive back to the beach and spend the rest of the week down there. Of course it doesn't help that the rest of my family doesn't come back until this Friday :)

Anyway, I don't have an picture for today's outfit but I thought I would share my favorite photos from the trip.

I hope you all have a lovely middle-of-the-week day!

(I've always wanted a picture of this water tower on the way into Rehoboth, and I finally got it)

(The beach was beautiful on Monday. Saturday and Sunday it was too hot to even bother going down to the beach.)

(The beach was within walking distance from the house, which was great.)

(Here we have my grandmother, me, and D. We stay in what used to be an old farmhouse, built in 1927. My grandmother wasn't actually mad, she just didn't smile for the photo.)

I lived in dresses (I think I wore jeans once) and I only brought 2 pairs of shoes with me, one black and one brown, in the style above. Of course I bought 3 pairs of shoes at the outlets, but I'll touch on those in another post. Both the dress ($24.99) and the sandals ($14.99) are from Target.

vacation time!

(click any photo to enlarge)
(disclosure: the first pic on the left is lightened for optimal viewage)

Good morning everyone,

I'm especially looking forward to the end of this particular Friday because D and I are meeting up with my family in Rehoboth Beach for the next 4 days. We haven't taken a real vacation since December and we're both really looking forward to relaxing on the beach (and going to the outlets, of course). Do you all have any weekend plans?

Since we'll be driving for a few hours tonight I wanted to wear something comfortable. This dress is great because it's a wonderfully soft and silky fabric, and it doesn't seem to wrinkle. I bought it in brown as well and I'm thinking of packing that one too :)

Did you all buy anything during the extra 20% off sale at Piperlime? I had some store credit that I needed to use so I bought these two pairs of adorable shoes (I've been lusting over the dotted blue ones for a while now):

Hi all,

How often do you all get asked how you're doing, and you reply that you're tired? I feel like I tell my coworkers (and you all) that I'm feeling tired almost every day. So today I'm going to say that I'm not tired.

We had to drive to Baltimore to pick my mom up from the airport last night. Her flight was delayed so we didn't end up getting back home until about 11:30 or so. A certain furball is very excited to have some new furniture to sleep on. Notice the cat-like indention on the larger suitcase in the back. She's been busy.

I hope you all have a lovely Thursday!

Good morning all,

Out of today's bunch one shot was alright, and of course it's one where I cut out my new gold sandals. I've waited to wear them because I was thinking about returning them, but they're just so cute that I couldn't let them go :)

I hope you all have a good Wednesday!

I'm having a tough time focusing today, and I'm resisting the urge to drink more than one cup of coffee to counteract my tiredness :)

The lovely Natalie gave me an award, which pretty much made my morning. So here are another ten things about myself (and links to 6 other blogs at the bottom).

1) I don't travel much. Outside of my Mexico archaeology class I've only been to around 6 states (give or take a couple).

2) I'm terrified of flying. One winter (before 9/11) I was flying up to DC to visit family with my mother. About 15 min. into the flight we heard a huge "BOOM" noise. It turns out one of the plane engines had failed. I was told that we would have been fine (the plane had two engines) but we made an emergency landing in West Palm Beach and got on another plane.

3) I'm copying Natalie here :) My first job was at Arby's. I could tell you horror stories about their "roast beef". And although they're tasty, you might want to avoid their shakes.

4) I have never won a raffle or random drawing contest.

5) I was the tallest kid in my school up until 4th grade (then I switched schools).

6) There were under 100 kids at the first school I was enrolled at (it was private; it also explains how I was the tallest).

7) I was a band nerd in high school (flute/oboe).

8) I have a tower of shoes in our spare bedroom. It's height has surpassed my head.

9) I don't believe in astrology, but I enjoy hearing about the different predictions.

10) I haven't kept in close contact with most of my high school friends.

Now it's your turn (that is, if you're into this sort of thing; no pressure). I nominate these lovely ladies:

Bombshell Beauty
Work With What You've Got
Closet Bliss
Always Summer
Juxta-Posing

this fire it's burning, burning us up...

(click any photo to enlarge)

Good morning all,

How was everyone's weekend? I had a nice time preparing for my mother's visit (she arrives this Wednesday). Otherwise, Friday was actually our (D and myself) 3 year anniversary, and along with a few other great gifts, I got this:

I mean, you can't go wrong with a strawberry cheesecake ice cream cake. I didn't even know they existed! Hopefully this will become a tradition :)

We also made time to go to our local Target and I found a few things on clearance. I've been wanting a pair of sunglasses for our vacation and I thought the ones below were alright (I hate most sunglasses on myself), and then I noticed they were on clearance for under $4 and loved them even more :)

Clockwise from the top:
Striped Top: $9.08
L'Oreal HIP eyeshadow: not on sale, around $8
Sunglasses: $3.47!
Gold sandals: $13.98
Miss Trish seahorse sandals: $17.98
Black sandals: $13.98

Last night I decided to try out a crazy shade of yellow nail polish, which you can see below. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Perhaps I'll mix it with a pearly white next time to try to tone it down, hehe.

I hope you all have a great day!

Teal top: Old Navy (2007 or 2008, I forget)

Sandals: Target ($14.99, 2009)
Necklace: Stella & Dot via Ebay ($61, July 2010)
Rings: Stella & Dot ($37 each, April 2010)

PS-I just have to mention the great price I got on this skirt. I saw it at NY & Co last week, and it was marked down to $4.99. I had an extra 30% off coupon, which brought this skirt down to $3.50! Yes, I bought one in every color. You know what the best part is? I paid $30 for this skirt a few months ago and returned it because I figured I'd see it on sale sometime. Although I never thought I'd get it for such a great price.

finally, a new hair style...

(click photo to enlarge)

Hi all,

I've been wanting a new haircut for quite some time, and last night I finally got it! I haven't had bangs since high school (and swore I never would again) but I found myself wondering if it would be so bad now that the world has straightening irons. All I wanted in high school were flat straight bangs. Instead I would get poofy things that protruded out from my forehead like I had been electrocuted. I didn't use the straightening iron this morning, but I'm excited to see what it can do :)

For reference, I asked my stylist to make my hair look like this:
I hope you all have a great weekend!

sweet disposition...

(click photo to enlarge)

Good morning all,

Some coworkers and I were talking about the movie 500 Days of Summer (which I loooved) and my one coworker said that the soundtrack got her interested in The Smiths. Better late than never, right? I mean, I didn't fully realize my interest in Elliott Smith until watching Good Will Hunting, so I can't give her too much grief. Anyway, our talk made me want to listen to the 500 DOS soundtrack, so I fulfilled my want this morning on the way to work. For some reason this particular soundtrack puts me in a good mood. Do you all have any favorite perk-up songs?

I hope you all have a great Thursday!

a purse dilemma...

(click any photo to enlarge)

Hi all,

I have purses on my mind this morning. I switch out my purse a few times a week (depending out my outfit), and I left my flash drive in the purse that is conveniently at home. Annoying yes? So tell me, do you all change your purses?  :)

Let's move on to the outfit. I'm wearing a few new things that I'm pretty excited about. I've had my eye on the necklace I'm wearing for quite some time and when Trove announced she would be going out of business the necklace went on sale and into my price range. There are a few more pieces I might have to get before she closes up shop for good :)

Then there are my shoes. Shoes oh shoes, where do I begin? Well, I make it no secret that I love B. Makowsky, so imagine my excitement when I found out that he makes shoes. Unfortunately QVC is asking a bit too much for his wares. Then I came across these beauties on a new (to me) website, BonTon, and at $32.40 plus free shipping, they were a steal! Endless is still selling them for $83!

That's all I've got for today. I hope you all have a good one!

the shoe sales are killing me...

Good morning all,

Can I tell you all a true story? Later this month I'm going to be buying a car. This is not news to me, and I have been putting away money for quite some time now. However, a certain amazing website is killing me with their shoe sales! I have been watching these beauties since last winter, and convinced myself out of them several times. However, there was a sale over the weekend and they went down to $19.95! So, in true K style, I bought one in every color (for less than what I was going to pay for 1; yes, that was my justification). So there went my car money for this month. Oh restraint, I have none. Now I'm trying to do some more selling on ebay to make up for my lack of restraint :) How do you all justify big purchases? Or do you? :) BTW, my parents came across a phrase that summarizes my thoughts: If the shoe fits, buy it in every color.

I hope you all have a fantastic day!

time flies...

(click any photo to enlarge)

Good morning all,

Four day workweeks should happen more often, right? Yesterday seemed to drag on for a bit but overall I'd say this week has gone by pretty fast. Do you all have any plans for the weekend?

Yesterday I had a few packages waiting for me when I got home, and Katy Kat loooves it when I get packages (almost as much as I do).

A few of the things I got yesterday were incorporated into today's outfit. I got this flowy tank top in two colors during Old Navy's sale (I should buy stock in them or something), the pearl necklace was a gift from D, and the shoes were a great find on ebay. I not only got today's pair, but I got red and brown as well. And the best part? I paid under $15.50 for all three pairs! I love ebay :)

I hope you all have a great weekend!

blue to grey, grow up and blow away...(metric)

Good afternoon everyone,

I had a tough time deciding what to wear last night, and for some reason my indecision led me to try on every pair of jeans I haven't worn in forever. I think it was a test to see if they would fit (success!) So I decided on these rarely used wide leg pants. I had to spray about 1/3 of my downy wrinkle release magic on them (it would probably have been easier to just learn how to iron) but I think they turned out alright. How often do you all go through your clothes and try them on?

and the excitement fades...

(Credit: Pants, Necklace, Shoes)

Remember this top? I was just so darn excited when I bought it because a) it was chambray and b) it buttoned down over my chest area (which was and still is a huge triumph). Sadly, my love for this shirt died after wearing it that day. I spent most of the day pulling the shirt down because it wanted to try and turn around on me, and the shoulders kept falling backwards. So why am I wearing it again today? Well knowing I couldn't return it, I tried shrinking it in the dryer (which worked, possibly a little too well) and thought I'd give it one more go. To add a little originality I tried to pin a deep purple flower on the shirt, and ended up with a rip in the right chest area. Since I was running late (yes, again) I didn't have time to change or take a picture. So, after today's wear I'm saying goodbye to this top.

I hope you all have a great day!

an office tour...

(click photos to enlarge)

Much like every other Monday, I was running a bit late today and I didn't have a chance to take my own photo this morning. So D came to my office and kindly took a few in (thanks, D!)

So first, let me introduce you to my bulletin board. I tried to edit out anything that could be personally identifying but I think you all will get the idea. This board is where all of my post cards, drawings, photos and random papers end up when they enter my office. I like to put things up that remind me that I might have a life outside of work (or at least pretend to).

Then we have my "window", courtesy of the local dollar store. A few of us minion underlings here at work like to bemoan the fact that we don't have window offices* (and won't for at least another 5 years), and it's become a joke to create new ways to have our own windows. When my coworker and I saw these huge fake tropical windows at the dollar store we knew we had found our own solution. I plan on decorating the birds for the major holidays, but I can't seem to settle on names for them. Any suggestions?

I hope you all have a great Tuesday!

*Before anyone gets judgy I'd like to clarify that I love and appreciate having my own private office. I'm not discounting how great a personal office space is, however, in my work environment the next step up is a window office (instead of a nicer cubicle) so that is what we underlings look forward to.
**Interesting fact: At my last place of employment the promotion bonus was a plant.

can you tell I like floral patterns?

(click photo to enlarge)
Good Friday everyone!

I picked out this top during Old Navy's 30% off sale and I really like it. It's soft, breathable, comfortable, and not a color I would normally wear. Since I was feeling a bit lazy last night I just threw it with some jeans and called it an outfit. Laziness aside, I'm so ready for this long weekend. Do you all have any 4th of July plans?

Whatever you do, I hope you all have a great weekend!

a floral explosion...

(click photos to enlarge)
Good morning all,

This dress was hanging all the way in the back of my closet, destined to be forgotten for a couple months. I have quite a few black and white patterned dresses, and they all hang out in the back corner of my closet so it's easy for me to not even look at them. For once I decided not to grab something from the front, which resulted in this dress.

I'm hoping to rearrange some stuff in my closet, and I'm thinking about investing in one of these to hold my cardigans (trust me, I have a lot). I feel like I could fit more cardigans in the boxes than I currently have hanging up (and I already use these space saving hangers from QVC). Do you all have any closet storage tips?

Only one more day until a 3 day weekend!
