surprise weekend post!

Good afternoon everyone,

I decided to do a Saturday post, mostly so I could nag you all about entering the contest one more time! And I wanted to show off tucking my jeans (jean leggings, actually) into boots. I know it isn't anything crazy or revolutionary, but when you have a hard time fitting boots over your calves in the first place, stuffing jeans in them seems like a huge achievement. Oh, and I got my hair done on Thursday. It's more of a dark brown without the red hue this time, and I really like it :)

The main reason I got dressed today was to go out to lunch with D. We planned on going to P.F. Chang's and then hitting our local Borders. It's hard for me to see so many Borders closing. I worked at Waldenbooks (now known as Borders Express or some crap like that) all throughout college, so by extension Borders had a soft spot in my heart. But then again I never shop or support Borders anymore because they're so expensive, and I love our local library system.

In the end we didn't end up making it over to Borders because I took a fall in P.F. Chang's. Between the elevator spill and today's minor catastrophe I'm a little worried about my equilibrium. I mean, the floor was slippery, but it was like I was walking like a normal bipedal and then *bam* I slipped and fell directly on my elbow and knees. Everyone was immediately asking if I was alright, which I was, and D had to basically pick me up off the floor and help me out. So embarrassing! And clearly my boots are flat, so I can't blame it on heels. Maybe I should practice walking more often.

Happy Saturday to you all, and stay tuned for Monday's winner!

time is running out...

Good afternoon everyone,

I took a day off from work today in order to rebuild my rapidly draining levels of sanity. Instead of relaxing and sleeping all day (I swear I'd be a great cat) I've been all over town returning things. I guess getting my tax refund has motivated me to get my finances in order :) I'm just happy I don't have to go anywhere this weekend. I got all my errands done today and I plan on sleeping away the weekend. What plans do you all have?

Don't forget to enter the $100 give-away! There are only 13 people entered, and it ends this Sunday, so get on it!

Happy weekend y'all!

on this fine Wednesday...

Good morning everyone,

How is Wednesday treating you? My day is going a lot better than yesterday, which is (of course) a good thing. I thought well, if I don't take a picture it's like the day never happened. Right? Riiiiight.

I can't believe it's been almost 2 months since I got my hair colored ("glazed"). It was supposed to fade out after 28 washes and it still doesn't look faded to me. It's a much lighter red than when I first got it done, but it's nowhere near my normal dark blonde color. My next hair appointment is tomorrow and I'm thinking I'm going to have her use the same color, but I'm wondering how the current color will affect the glaze process.

Happy Wednesday!

happy Friday!

Hi all,

It's finally Friday, and I'm as excited about this Friday as I am about every other Friday. Do you all have any plans for the weekend? We're going to a house party Saturday night for one of my coworkers. She's moving to Mexico and we're all celebrating together one last time. Or in my case, celebrating for the first time. Every other time we've been invite somewhere with her something has come up.

Today's photo was taken on the rooftop of the building I work in. I was slightly mortified because a bunch of people walked by and I couldn't just tell myself "well, I'll never see them again" because I probably will. My coworker (that took the picture) just laughed at me. I only had the guts to take one photo and walk away like nothing was going on :)

I hope you all have a good weekend. And of course, enter my $100 ShopBop giveaway!

short and sweet

Good morning,

I told my fabulous boyfriend that I wanted to get some great pictures this morning. Instead we got one passable photo, "evil side-eye", and "tilted head with a side of impatient foot tapping",. I thought I would include the two outtakes because I find them amusing.

The weekend is almost upon us! Don't forget to enter the ShopBop Giveaway!

the dress that launched a thousand blood drops

(See our neighbor walking the dog? She must think I'm nuts.)
 Good morning everyone,

Remember my epic elevator fall?  Well, this dress was the cause of it (in a roundabout way). I saw this dress on clearance at Lane Bryant and decided hey, I'm going to put it back and come back in a week. If it's still there, it's totally mine. Then I went into Target and spent the whole trip whining to my friend about how I should have gotten the dress. I mean, it was the only one left, it happened to be in my size, and it was $14.99 (on sale for $24.99 and I had a $10 LB certificate). I'm surprised my friend didn't stab my annoying ass. Instead she insisted we go back and get that great wonderful dress. So we did. And then I got attacked by the elevator on the way back. Stupid dress.

(D's Valentine's Day gift to me finally came!)

You know what isn't stupid? Giveaways. And I'm having one. Today. Stay tuned for a second Wednesday post!

too little time...

(This was taken about 15 minutes ago. My lipstick left the scene quite a while ago, along with all of my color, apparently)
Good afternoon all,
How was your February 14th? Mine was insane (work), but none of it was due to crazy romance. Though I did get some kick-ass shoe cookies from the boy. He actually had his coworker make them for him because he knew I would notice cookies baking in the house :) But really, I've never been one to celebrate v-day (single or attached). D is taking me out tomorrow for our 3 years 7 months anniversary. We celebrated monthly anniversaries during our long-distance period and the tradition sort of stuck. Thank goodness the long distance part didn't!

(There were many more cookies, but I ate them.)
Today is possibly more crazy than yesterday, so I do have to make this short. I hope you all are having a great Tuesday!

purposely mixing navy and black

(I look angry but I really wasn't. Just tired)

Hi all,

Today's outfit is uber casual and comfortable. A while back I told Erin I was looking high and low for a long black sweater cardigan, and I'm thrilled to have found it (at *drumroll* Coldwater Creek! Seriously guys, I should get paid for this.) But I have to say I'm not happy with my shoe choice. I was originally going to go with a pair of tall black boots but I couldn't find the energy to attempt to zip them up over my mammoth calves this morning. So I went with my navy suede wedges. Oh well, there's another 5 days to work out better choices next week.

Just to let you all know-I have a super awesome giveaway coming up, so stay tuned for that.

Happy Friday!

the proof is in the sweater (and I could really use some pudding)

(I'm a sucker for a red lip stain. This is Revlon's Just Bitten stain in "Gothic")
 Good afternoon everyone,

After yesterday's yacking about Coldwater Creek I figured today would be a good day to actually wear one of my purchases. Say hello to my nice new comfy soft sweater. A sweater with strategically placed holes. Which I wore in 30 degree weather. Sometimes I wonder how I make it through each day. But at least it looks good. Right? Right. And it's always hot in my office. Yes, that is my excuse...

I also wore my nice new ASOS coat (it makes me feel like I should be on a safari). This is the first ASOS piece that I actually like enough to wear :) It came with this nifty brown double tie belt, and let me tell you that belt caused me to be an extra 10 minutes late to work. If I were really going on a safari this coat would make me get eaten by a lion or something. Whoever thought looping a belt through a coat twice was a good idea is an asshole. Or maybe I'm the ass. I'll get back to you all on that one.

Work is driving me a little batty so I should get back to it. Happy Thursday!

coldwater creek review

Good morning everyone,

I have a super busy day at work today, but I wanted to talk about something I mentioned last week (or the week before, I forget now)...

So, Coldwater Creek*. Of course I'm not wearing anything from the store today, but I went on a bit of a shopping spree with them over the past month and I have to say I'm really quite pleased. In my head, CC was a store for people like my mom. Well-made, casual, slightly more mature outfits for people that had some extra money to spend. In other words, I planned on shopping with them in a few years. Well my preconceived notions were totally wrong (and I am getting older, yes). I don't even know what led me to browse around the site last month but all of a sudden I was checking out with clothing galore (and a beauuutiful tablecloth for a table I don't own in an apartment I am not yet renting). I mean, right now they have 28 pages of clearance items in my size alone! So, I bought some stuff.  Rinse and repeat. And I even checked out my local CC and bought a few more things. And I have yet to wear most of it on the blog (but I have big plans, I promise).

But you know what really got me? Their customer service. I bought a beautiful tweed jacket online, but it was big (I'd say their sizing is a little generous when it comes to jackets). So I called customer service to see if I could exchange it for a smaller size. Well, they didn't have a smaller size available online so they offered to look at some of the local stores and send it to me (for free) if they found one. And if they couldn't find the size I wanted, a real live person would call me back within 2 days and let me know. On top of that I was returning some other items, and they said the return could be mailed back for free because it would be considered an exchange, even if the item in my size couldn't be found! It all turned out well because a Virginia store called me a day later and told me they had the jacket in my size, and to call them back to confirm that I still wanted it. Which I did, and I'm happy to say that it fits much better. Not to mention everyone I spoke to was just super nice and really pleasant. It's such a change from some of the crappier retail experiences I've had recently.

So, there are usually coupon codes floating around, and my local CC is right nearby so if I'm not exchanging something going to a store to return things isn't a big deal for me. With so many options (both straight, plus, and petite sizes) I think I'll definitely stick with them. I mean, their outlet prices can't be beat (just don't look at the regular prices...that's a little painful). And as far as the fit goes, I can work into their regular or plus sizes, so it's like double the options. :)

Ok, I'm done now. Have you all ever shopped with Coldwater Creek?

*-Coldwater Creek did not pay/bribe/mind control me write any of these things. I just spent some money with them and had a very pleasant experience that I thought was worth sharing.

Happy Wednesday!

Tuesday: You all, everybody...

Good morning everyone,

I suppose you all wouldn't know this about me, but I am usually the last to know about everything hip and cool. I've been reading about the Everybody, Everywhere site and decided to submit to this month's blazer theme. I'm not sure how I missed out on this for so long but it's a really great site. I've found quite a few new blogs just by browsing through the pics that have been submitted. :)

Update-I'm not the last to know about the site! :) If you're interested on learning more behind the Everybody Everywhere site, or you want to join in, click here.

Now, on to the outfit. As I've stated quite a few times, my work is very casual. On any given day you see outfits ranging from sweatpants to a custom suit and everything in-between.  And the suits are not normally people I run into on a daily basis. This morning me and my purple tights ran into three suits, and all of them gave me memorable looks. By memorable I mean the side eye. :) But at least I have on a blazer! I mean, where are the suits when the guy in the ed hardy rose thornbush encrusted jacket walks by...

Happy Tuesday!

to tank or not to tank, that is the question...

Good morning everyone,

I had an amusing (well, to me) back and forth dilemma with this dress today. I went to put it on without a tank top, and then thought better of it and grabbed one to wear under. When I put the dress on I realized you couldn't even see the tank and I could get away without one. So, off came the dress and the tank. When I put the dress on a second time (w/out a tank) it was like ahoy holy cleavage mountain! So I had to get dressed a third time, again with the tank. Such exciting mornings I have...

So I wanted to include a shot of my everyday bag. It's really more of a tote, and I use it almost every day. I love that it's oversized and it has a cute patchwork pattern thing going on. So going from this to the crossbody Steve Madden bag I recently purchased is a challenge because the SM one is so much smaller. It's like putting together a puzzle to get everything to fit. I think I'll have to save it for lighter days at the office or weekend outings until I can rearrange what I carry on a daily basis.

How was your weekend? Are you ready for the middle of February? I got most of what I had in mind done by yesterday evening, including listing another 20 things via ebay. I wish it wasn't so time consuming, but the outcome can be worth it. I also helped my grandmother go through some of her boxes of papers and we ran across old daily journals that my grandfather used to keep. I plan on hanging on to them and reading them when I get a chance (they're not personal diaries, rather they're like an outline of what he did every day). We also found report cards from when my grandmother was in grade school (in the 1920's) and some interesting letters from past boyfriends. It was fascinating to see another side of my grandmother, and I'd say it was one of the nicer weekends I've spent with her as of late.

Happy Monday!

Good morning all,

Why does it feel like this week took FOREVER to end? I feel like I've been waiting way too long for Friday to come around. Tonight I'm supposed to meet up with some friends for drinks, and I'm looking forward to relaxing and cleaning over the weekend. What do you all have planned?

olive & wine

Good morning,

How is everyone's day going? Yesterday I had to leave work early because I wasn't feeling well (my lunch didn't agree with me) but today seems to be better. I'm so thankful my work is laid back when it comes to taking leave at the last minute.

To say I love a good routine is an understatement. I decided to consult Kimberly's outfit inspiration calendar yet again, and today's olive + wine combo got me wearing this outfit. I love how it's making me incorporate pieces that don't get regular use. When I only own one olive top I have to create something around it! It doesn't hurt that this cardigan is as comfy as pajamas. And although it came out looking kinda gray, it really is olive.

I'm also wearing a new belt and a new (to me) pair of Coach shoes. I never thought I would own anything Coach related but these shoes were perfect, and when I won them for $30 ($48 minus some paypal funds) on ebay I was thrilled!

I can't wait for the weekend to get here. Happy Thursday everyone!

I have no legs...

Good morning everyone,

Yesterday's outfit inspiration suggestion was so helpful that I decided to follow today's idea as well: ruffles. For some reason I thought I had more tops with ruffle details, but I don't. Most of my tops have floral or abstract patterns, not ruffles. I have plenty of dresses with ruffles, but I haven't been in a dress wearing mood. Maybe next week.

Our power went out last night so I got a late start this morning. I thought that would make for better pictures, but the snow seemed to distort the colors and you can't see my legs very well. No worries...I looked down to make sure they were really there.

Did any of you watch What Not to Wear last night?  The woman annoyed me so much that I could barely sit through the whole thing. It made me want to crawl through the TV and shake some sense into her. I thought maybe she and her friends had decided to prank WNTW or something (she was just so ridiculous and stupid), but maybe she really is that shallow and unaware of who she really is. Who knows....

Happy hump day!

stripes and animals, oh my :)

Good afternoon everyone,

Last night I just couldn't figure out what to wear. I had clothing lying around all willy-nilly T.J. Maxx style and I just couldn't come up with an acceptable combination. Then I remembered Kimberly's inspiration calendar and after looking at today's idea, stripes with an animal print, I decided on this combo. This top is from Michael Kor's plus size line and I find it to be very inconsistent size-wise when compared to the other items. I've bought tops from the brand in the past and they've run very large all throughout. Today's top is actually a little snug in the hips and short in length, but it's nothing a tank top can't deal with. It also helps that I didn't pay a cent for the top (I had $25 in MyShape credit from my coworker signing up). Do you all have any tricks for making a shirt look longer?

This area might get a lot of ice/snow tonight and tomorrow so I may not have a reason to get dressed tomorrow. If that's the case, happy Tuesday-Wednesday! If not, I'll see you all in a bit :)
