hello again!

 Hi everyone,

I figured I would drop by and share a recent outfit with you all. We took some friends out for a birthday dinner last weekend and I decided to dress up, heels and all. And in an effort to change the way I would wear this dress to work I left out the modesty tank top. These are crazy times I'm living, I know.

In all seriousness we had a lovely time at dinner and taking these photos made me miss posting on here. I'm slowly settling into new routines and we'll see if and where I can fit the blog back into the puzzle.

I hope you all are doing well!

Dress: Kiyonna ($20 from an awesome LJ sale years ago)
Heels: Seychelles (these are actually very comfortable, even if I did wear flats for the walking portion of our trip)
Necklace: Now defunct Mark & Pearl
Egyptian Cuff Bracelet: Art museum when I worked in another lifetime

i'm still around

Hi all,

Sorry for my unplanned absence. During the past few weeks my life has been a bit hectic.

Last week marked 1 year since my grandmother passed away, which of course also meant it's been a year since I broke my leg. My whole family has been a bit down, myself included, and I've just been trying to quietly deal with my emotions.

In better news I applied to graduate school and I just found out that I've been accepted. So I'll start as a part-time student at the end of this month. I'll continue working full-time and I'm a bit nervous about balancing my work/school/home life. So wish me luck!

Yesterday I went on campus for some academic advising, and they told me to go ahead and get my student ID card. After being pointed to the right path I got lost 3 times and managed to get a sunburn just for being outside for 30 minutes. At least I now know where the bookstore, a starbucks, and the physical science building are located (the last of which I will probably never see again, hah).

As far as all of this affecting the blog...well I'm torn about what to do. For now I'm going to put the blog on hold and try to get used to my new routines. Perhaps I'll eat my words next week and start taking photos again. Or maybe I'll just take a month off. Like I said-I'm undecided. Regardless I still plan to continue looking at all of your blogs because they're still a constant source of inspiration, especially on days when getting out of bed seems like an insurmountable task.

So this is a farewell for now, but I hope to be back sooner or later.

(color) blockhead

 Good afternoon ladies,

Yesterday was Everybody, Everywear's color blocking day and I knew exactly what I wanted to put on for once. Then again it's always easier when I know I'm not running errands or going outside. Since it was a long office day I brought in my heels and wore them while I was at my desk. My leg was all kinds of sore when I got home but they still made me feel pretty good while I had them on :)

Happy Wednesday!

almost patriotic

Good evening ladies,

I tried my best to look patriotic today. I originally planned on wearing the blue and white striped version of this dress but when I realized all of my neutral colored underthings were dirty I switched to the navy version.

Also navy-these great lapis earrings. I think they might be reversible (there is a silver lattice design on the other side) and I wish I knew who made them so I could get a pair in another color stone.

Any plans for the holiday tomorrow? We get to take off and I've already told D not to wake me up in the morning unless my life is at stake :) Happy fourth!

epic bun, hun :)

Good afternoon everyone,

How was your weekend? We got hit by that fabulous "land hurricane" on Friday night and yet we still ventured out to Columbia on Saturday. Big mistake. Fallen trees, cars driving into ravines, electrical wires everywhere, lines of cars as far as the eye could see waiting for gas...I really did feel like I was back in south Florida. Except we never lost power, so I guess we got lucky in that regard :)

Anyhow, I figured a lot of people wouldn't make it to work today so I opted for casual and comfy. These pants wrinkled with just a glance and they've since stretched another 2 sizes so I'm hoping washing in warm water and a trip to the dryer will shrink them a little. Of course our washer/dryer isn't getting delivered today due to the widespread power outages so I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Good thing I have this cute non-stretching necklace to keep me company, right?

Last thing I want to mention is this fabulous hair bun contraption (btw I'm on an unofficial shopping ban as of today). I saw it on Juggling Chic's blog and I immediately had extreme bun envy. I promptly ran out to Sally's during my lunch hour only to find they were out of all of the big bun donuts. So I bought a petite blonde version and I love it! It feels totally messy going up but in all of 1 minute I have a perfectly shaped donut bun! Just thought I'd share :)

Happy Monday!

staying indoors

Good evening ladies,

Why is it that I feel so good after I get a pedicure? I can't paint my own toenails worth a crap but when I have them done I always feel more put together. Of course I always smash my toe into something 3 seconds after I walk out the door but that's why I use my own polish. Touch-ups I can handle. :)

So what are your plans for the weekend? We're driving to Columbia to see some of  D's friends. We plan on challenging one another on the Wii (Mario Kart and Bit Trip are among our plans) and Sunday I'll probably try to relax and get some cleaning done.

Oh and before I forget-Eloquii is having a bombtastic sale right now. Buy one get one free on everything (including sale items!) Plus a ton of their shirts are 9.99 and 14.99. They changed their free shipping and you have to order $100 to get the free shipping but returns are still free. Just thought you all might want to take advantage of it. I know I am! :) My UPS guy must think I'm crazy.

Happy Friday!

a skirt of great length

Good afternoon ladies,

So here is yesterday's ensemble. I was supposed to get a pedicure with my coworker during our lunch hour but we opted for actual eating instead.

Today I'm very casual (maybe a bit too casual) in silver flats, black crops and a patterned top but it's not likely you'll see photographic proof. I had to go to the doc for a rash on my arm that's not going away, and I wanted to wear something that would give her easy access. And I'm not even going to touch on the weather. :)

Happy Thursday folks!

Good evening,

Long time no see! It's been a hectic few days. This morning I was running late to work. I knew I wanted to wear this new skirt but I just threw on my softest top and went with it. :)

shoes of death

Good morning everyone,

Here is what I wore Friday. I know I won't be getting a photo of today's outfit so I thought I would go ahead and post this now.

Thursday I ran to Target to pick up a few things and I saw these flats in pink and orange. I tried them on in the store and they felt sufficiently comfortable for $20 shoes. So I wore these immediately. Big mistake! Even with a heel and a ball-of-foot cushion these shoes suck if you plan on walking at all in them. I will definitely be returning the pink ones ('cause of course I got both colors).

I hope your Monday is starting out well!

new igigi dress

Good evening everyone,

Tonight D and I had plans to go out for a happy hour with some of his coworkers but we ended up working late instead. So I wore this fancy dress for a looong office day :) Oh well! This is my first non-ebay Igigi purchase (meaning I spent way too much via their online retail store) but when it went on sale and was the only one remaining I splurged. It's incredibly well-made (fully lined!) and I love the way it fits but even on sale it was a big purchase. So it might have to go into my rotation at least once a week :)

I hope you all had a fantastic Thursday!

carry on

Good afternoon ladies,

How about a photo for today? Maybe I'm finally getting back with the program. No apologies this time though :)

I got this dress from Macy's during their memorial day sale and I knew I would love wearing it once the temps starting rising. Tonight we're going to see Prometheus and I wanted something comfortable to walk around in before the movie. I loved the different blues and greens on the dress and I thought it paired well with this navy cardigan.

How was your weekend? D put together a wonderful baker's rack for our kitchen and I had a grand time putting stuff on/in it. It really helps with the storage situation :) Sunday I ate lunch with my childhood best friend, which is always a treat. I met her at a restaurant near some outlets and I managed to stay out of the stores. But then I drove to a nearby Lane Bryant to use my real women dollars. Now is the time to stock up on undergarments :)

Happy Monday!

all I've got

Good morning,

Last night I met up with some coworker friends in DC for a nice night of catching up. Of the 4 of us 2 of us are still working at my company while the other 2 have moved up to other areas. One of them just got back from working for a non-profit in Mexico and my other friend is getting ready to leave for India for 7 months. So it's fair to say we don't see each other often enough and it was nice to get caught up with events and happenings. The sad thing is-they indulged me with some work gossip that I didn't even know about, and they don't even work here anymore! I need to get out more :)

So on to the outfit. I bought this dress to wear to my best friend's wedding reception, but when I wasn't able to go the dress ended up getting shoved to the back of my closet. When I was frantically trying to figure out what to wear yesterday I happened upon the dress and now you have this one (not-so-flattering) photo as proof. It's hard to take a picture when crowds of people keep walking by you :)

Anyway, I hope you all have a lovely day!

yesterday's "interesting" combination

Good evening ladies,

So this outfit is from yesterday. Allow me to paint a picture for you (and I am telling you all this for amusement purposes). It's too early on a Monday morning and I'm scampering into my office building. I'm struggling to balance my too-large bag, my "oh crap it's Monday" sak of lunches for the week, and attempting to gracefully swipe my ID badge at the door so I can get in my building. Oh yeah, and I'm trying not to make any human contact because I don't seem to acquire my language skills until about 8:30. But Monday wasn't my day and as I'm holding the door for the woman behind me I notice her giving me the once-over. After confirming that my underwear is indeed under and there is nothing inappropriate happening with my outfit I waited for a good morning or greeting of that nature. Instead she said "Well now, that's an interesting combination." The way she spit out the "interesting" part makes me think it wasn't a positive use of the word. But come on-It's not like I'm reinventing the wheel with yellow and brown. So I shrugged and said "yeah, I like it" and continued to my office. There must have been an early bird special on the judgey mcjudger platter yesterday. But no harm done because I do love this dress.

Do your coworkers make unnecessary comments about what you wear?

(Yep-I acquired a mannequin. It's for my ebay stuff but I'm enjoying dressing "her" with my daily outfits)

snakes on a dress

Good morning,

This is actually Tuesday's outfit. At this rate I'll never catch up. I'm leaving early to see the surgeon today (they couldn't see me last week) so I'll try and get evidence of today's dress (which is striped, if you're interested).

So how's your week going? I still feel like we're all catching up from Monday but I'll be happy when another weekend comes around. Happy Thursday!

catching up

Good morning everyone,

Sometimes I don't know where the time goes. We got photos from last week but somehow I never made it to an update. So now I'm a day behind :) It wasn't until I looked at these photos (and my laundry) that I realized I wore stripes for most of last week. Oopsies :)

How was your weekend? We went out to happy hour on Friday night and I wore a new striped dress that I bought earlier in the week. I've been watching this dress (at Macy's) for quite some time but $140 is a bit steep for me. Then when I went into the mall I saw it on the clearance rack and decided I could live with paying 1/3 of the original price :) Besides, it was the only one left in my size. Like I needed a sign, right? :)

Anyway, I hope you all had a lovely long weekend and I'll try to get back to regular posts soon.

bunnies on Mondays

Good evening,

Last night I got out two dresses and thought I would push the envelope and decide which one to wear in the morning. Living on the edge, I know. The bunny necklace went along with this dress better than my second choice anyway :)

So how was your weekend? Ours was quiet. We went for a walk on Sunday and my legs are definitely feeling it today. Speaking of which, I'm going back to the orthopedic surgeon on Wednesday to see about some pain issues I'm having. Obviously my gait has changed since I broke my leg and my right hip/thigh/knee really kills me sometimes. Maybe it's because I still favor that leg. Hopefully it's something I can address with more exercise and it's nothing more complicated. *sigh*  Anyway, Happy Monday!

summer-esque Friday

Good afternoon everyone,

This dress has garnered non-stop comments from my coworkers. I was a little unsure of it this morning (frankly I've been unsure of everything fashion related lately, but that's a story for another time) but it makes me feel good that everyone likes it. If it looks familiar to you it's because I own a twin dress in blue :)

I also love how the nail polish perfectly matches the pink stripes. I have to tell you this is one of my (new) favs as far as nail polishes go. It's Betsey Johnson's "It's My Pink" from Sephora, which has some of the the scent "me too" infused into the polish. I just bought it for the color and the application is fabulous and smooth and the color seems to last. The smell isn't bad either :) It's been 3 days since I painted my nails and you can't smell it unless you get really close to my hands.

So what are you all doing this weekend? I think D and I have a breakfast date tomorrow (if I can drag myself out of bed) and I'm hoping my ebay listings end well. I might stop by the cemetery to visit my grandparents as well. Honestly I'm still needing some closure.

Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Until next week...

lost time

 Good evening everyone,

This outfit is from Tuesday. I wore my red flats into work and when I was sitting I would put on the heels. So I thought I would try to show you both. I never thought I'd wear the ankle length cigarette style pants but I love these so much that I got them in red too. They have a super comfortable wide elastic waistband and I like that they hit me right above my ankle. I'll like them even more when I get to wear them with more heels :)

Today I wore a purple and black striped tee with some cropped jeans and I'm lacking the photographic evidence. Wednesday has become my unofficial casual day since I usually have meetings on Thursdays and Fridays. I'll try for a photo tomorrow :)

Blogger tells me this is my 500th post, so I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for stopping by. I never thought anyone would read this, let alone follow it, and I love getting your comments and emails. So thank you!

Happy Wednesday!

high-low hems

Good evening,

How was your week? I'm ready to relax for a little while this weekend. In fact I didn't even bother doing my hair this morning because I decided to sleep in later and just throw it up in a bun. Then I picked a patterned dress that I figured would distract people from looking at my hair. :)

When I first notice the whole high/low hem trend I figured that would be one that I passed up, but when I saw this dress for $20 I couldn't resist. Turns out it's quite comfortable, but I did feel a little "loud" walking up and down the halls throughout the day. And I kept referring to the back as my "lizard tail", which I'm sure impressed my coworker/friend, haha. I think I'll pick a neutral shoe next time and add a belt :)

Happy finally Friday!

nautical or nice

What a crazy week! As I write this my parents are back in south Florida and we are recovering from a few very busy days. D and I took off from work on Friday and we visited the VA side of Great Falls. Saturday I went to a Kentucky Derby themed party (no I did not wear a hat, and no pics either). Then Sunday I did a lot of walking (walking=shopping) with my mom and my leg/hip has been sore and in pain ever since. Then last night we went to a wonderful seafood restaurant since it was the last night in town for my parents. We also hosted our first dinner (we cooked and everything!) in our apartment and we got all of the new furniture assembled. It looks wonderful! I even managed to sell my papasan couch (aka mamasan) on craigslist. So all in all a very productive week! Of course that does mean fewer photos. I did manage to get one today once we got home. I had a short break between work and going out to celebrate a friend's birthday and I didn't want to miss out on Everybody, Everywhere's Nautical month. :) It's pure coincidence that I wore stripes today but I think this passes as nautical.

(my parents who did not match their outfits on purpose, I swear)

my week is almost over...

Hello all,

This is a short week for me and I am so excited to leave early tomorrow. My parents came into town last week and they went with us to IKEA last weekend. End result-We're getting our furniture delivered tomorrow. I know some people aren't fans of IKEA furniture, but I'm looking forward seeing our new sofa bed in action! This will be the first "real" furniture we've bought for our home, since everything else was given to us by family members (seriously-everything. We're very fortunate and I'm thankful every time I sit on something). I guess we got a rather late start to living on our own since I was living with my grandmother for so many years. But anyway, yay new furniture!

Also worth a "yay" is this new shrug. I had a bunch of Old Navy dollars to use so I ended up getting this in three colors during their 30% sale (along with a sports bra and some other odds and ends) and my whole order cost a whopping .99 cents. I never though I'd like the cropped silhouette on me but it works, and it's an alternative to belting everything. Then I couldn't resist pairing these sandals with the dress. My leg has been hurting me as of late so it's back to flats full-time.

Happy Wednesday!
