pixelated dress

 Hi all,

This is my first time wearing this dress and I'm quite pleased. It's great at hiding the fact that I ate half a box of Tagalongs last night. Well, maybe not half but too many :) My only complaint is that the front drapes and opens to reveal a black slip underneath.

See what I mean? If I didn't know better I would say it would look like I'm flashing someone. I did try to use some fashion tape and safety pins to close the gap this morning but I couldn't get it to stay flat and in the end I gave up.

I'm also loving this new (to me) ring. There is a consignment store in south Florida that my mom had sold some of my prom dresses to a couple months ago. When I was down there she wanted to show me the store. I was very unimpressed with the store itself (so crowded with trash bags of stuff that you could barely walk, no organization, the woman in charge wasn't there that day even though she knew we'd be coming in for a check)...Anyway, the ring. We were walking out when I saw it. They wanted $30, and we had stuff to donate (each donated item=$1) but since the boss wasn't there we couldn't do anything with our donations. So my kind wonderful mother went back the week after I left, donated the stuff she and I had put together, and got this ring with the credit. I just got it in the mail last night and I couldn't wait to wear it.

(True blood lip pencil. One of these days I'll start wearing eye makeup again)

What purchases have you all made lately? Happy Tuesday!

case of the comfy Mondays

Good afternoon everyone,

I can't wait to get back home and relax. This outfit was actually planned for our DC trip on Saturday but we ended up staying in. I was so lazy this morning that when I noticed it hanging all together in the closet I went for it. The fewer brain cells used the better, at least for today.

Hope you all are having a better Monday!

lunch at the park

Good evening ladies,

Today was partly awesome, partly awful. Awesome-my coworker and I ate lunch at a local park and enjoyed the beautiful weather. Someone had drawn some very nice chalk-art that we stopped to admire. Awful-I got back to work and realized that my flash drive was corrupted. I don't know how it happened, but I lost all of my pictures (and documents I've been saving for the past couple years). I'm spending way too much time trying to recover the contents. Unfortunately one of the permanent losses seems to be my first photo from my FL vacation. I convinced my parents to climb into a fake shark mouth and got a stranger to snap a photo of us, and it's the only one I have of the three of us since the one we took before my grandma's funeral. I have a few more tricks to try tomorrow but so far it's not looking good. Any suggestions? I'll try anything!

Maybe tomorrow will be better. After all, Fridays can't suck too hard, right? Right! Happy Thursday!

eloquii dress haul and review

Good morning everyone,

Seeing as most people have off today I dressed on the casual side and I am making zero attempts at taking an outfit photo today. So to make up for it I thought I'd do a review of my recent Eloquii order. Eloquii is The Limited brand's answer to plus-size clothing. I've ordered a few things in the past (see this review) and their sizing has been hit or miss for me. So of course I was thrilled when they had a huge sale on their dresses (all the dresses were $48 and I got an extra 30% off). I took the opportunity to try out a lot of styles that I've been eyeing, and I'm still surprised at what I liked and what's going back. Feel free to give me your honest criticisms and opinions. I'd appreciate it!

So, on a scale of 1-10 I would give this dress a 7. I love the color blocking trend, and I especially enjoy that it's all neutral colors. However, I know that this dress is going to wrinkle like crazy, and I would say the bottom ran a little bit small. I can walk and sit in it comfortably, but I won't be doing any ballerina moves in it. Also, I wish they would have included the belt (especially if I had paid full price for it). However, I did end up ordering the belt separately during their half off everything sale on Friday.
Decision: Keeper

I liked this dress more than I thought I would. I gave it an 8/10. The fabric is very smooth but not overly shiny, and the lining is nice as well. I wish it were a little longer in the back (I'm well-endowed in the rear) so I would be self-conscious bending over. However, I sit at a desk all day. So bending over (along with those ballerina moves) aren't really part of my everyday life. Plus I think it will look great with something over it, turning it into a skirt.
Decision: Keeper

I had high hopes for this dress. You know I love houndstooth. However, I gave it a 5/10 due to sizing. It was huge and billowy up top (especially in the back), and the bottom was too big as well. The fabric was also very thin on the bottom, and it gaped uncomfortable whenever I moved. I also hoped the fabric line would be a little lower on my waist. And while we're at it I also wish the shoulders were a little longer, but I'll wear a cardi with it.
Decision: Returned and reordered for a smaller size (yeah, I'm a sucker for the houndstooth)

This dress didn't even make it into the pictures, that's how fast I packaged it for a return. 2/10 points for this one. It was too short and looked completely shapeless on me, even with a belt. I'm sad about it because I've been wanting a cozy sweater cowl dress all season long. The only redeeming factor was that it was super soft. So if you're short maybe you could rock it. But it came up a good 4 inches above my knee (I'm 5'9), and that's just not something I would be comfortable wearing to work.
Decision: Return

Dress 5: Black Sheath Dress (no longer available)

I can't decide on points for this one, so we'll stay close to the middle and give it a 6/10. I thought the fabric would be a little less stiff, and the belt is so limp and unstructured it's laughable. But the belt can easily be switched out, and I really don't have a plain black dress to wear to corporate functions or funerals (such an optimist, I am). I also knew going into it that I would not have the same lovely curves as the model, but do note that it is not fitted on the bottom like it is in the picture.
Decision: Keeper

Dress 6: Pleated Box Dress (no longer available)

This was my favorite dress going into the order. I couldn't wait to try this one on. And I like it-8/10. It's extremely light, which will be nice in the warmer months. I love the cowl neck on top. A reviewer on the site mentioned that the top is sheer, but I didn't seem to have that issue. As you can see, the yellow color isn't quite as bright as pictured. It's more of a lime green than a yellow. Again the belt is totally limp, and I had hoped the waist wouldn't hit that high but I think a thicker belt will balance things out.
Decision: Keeper

This was my surprise winner. 10/10! Right length, different colors, super cute print...Ok, let me try an actual review now. I hate strapless dresses. Love the idea, but hate the execution on me. However, this print is adorable and at the sale price I couldn't resist. I just figured I would try it on and send it right back. When I got it out of the bag I noticed it came with removable black straps (not mentioned in the description), and when I put it on I fell in love. I'll always wear a cardigan or blazer over it, and I think it looks fabulous with my old knit black blazer. And for a strapless dress it does have some support in the top along with some rubberized band thing that helps prevent spillage. But like I said, for my purposes I will always be wearing something over it. Now D needs to take me out on a nice dinner date :)

So which dress is your favorite? And have any of you bought anything from Eloquii?

Happy Monday!

making up for lost time

Thursday

Friday

Hi all,

You get double the pics today since I skipped out on photos yesterday. When I got home this evening I took photos and then changed into what I wore yesterday. Dedication, right? :)

I almost opted for jeans today but I'm glad I went with the dress. It's so comfy it felt like I was wearing pajamas! Well, pajamas over spanx.

Do you all have any plans for the weekend? We were going to go to an exhibit in DC but they're doing some major metro work so we moved our trip to next weekend. We have a farmer's market nearby, so maybe we'll go to that instead. Are you all going to browse at any of the president's day sales? I've been buying up a storm at Eloquii this week and I think I might do a review next week. I could use your opinions on some of what I bought.

Happy finally Friday!

keeping with the red

Hi all,

When I saw this top at Burlington Coat Factory (in Florida) I knew I had to take it home. It has everything I love-a cowl neck, a floral print, 3/4 sleeves, and mixing black and brown together. Perfect in my book! :)

Happy Wednesday everyone!

hearts to everybody, everywhere

Good lunch time everyone,

I just typed up a wonderful post, complete with humor and sarcasm and it read like an epic poem. Then blogger deleted it. *shakes fist* Now all I can remember is the Everybody, Everywhere part. I can't believe we're already pairing red and pink in honor of V-day. I've got to admit I was not excited about the color palette but after all is said and done I actually like today's outfit. I may have to get some more pink going in my wardrobe :) Go here to see how the other ladies styled their hearts on their sleeves.

Happy Valentine's Day!

all for the necklace

Good afternoon ladies,

How is Thursday treating you all? I'm ready for today to be over already! I woke up feeling extra drained so I decided to opt for a casual look instead of the dress I had envisioned wearing last night. Plus I just got this necklace and I wanted to show it off (it's since sold out on the website). It helps the oufit appear less casual, right? Riiiiiight.

teal with patterns

(This is my bewildered "look at the temp ugh stupid snow" shot)
 Good evening everyone,

I was not feeling fashionable or photo friendly today. I never feel quite like myself when my hair is pulled back. Does that seem unreasonable? In middle school I never wore my hair up. There was a group of boys that called me "goofy" because they said my ears stuck out too much. Why were they so focused on my ears, anyway? Ears aside, I just think having my hair pulled back this tight isn't very flattering. But since I have such curly hair I can't just pull it up after a day of wearing it curly. I have to wash it and then pull it back, resulting in this harsher look. TMI? Probably. Still with me? Hello? I'm going to go buy a wig....

(Way harsh Tai!)
Happy Wednesday night!

Monday blues

Hello,

How was your weekend? My Red Lobster night out was scrumptious :) We went to Ross after dinner and I scored a lovely green purse ($34.99!). My friend seemed surprised that I wanted a purse in a color other than black. She should see my collection :) To my credit I did try to convince myself out of the purse while I was in line but then I noticed it came with an umbrella, and that just delighted me to no end. It's the little things that get me :)

Happy Monday!

crimson tops and red lobster

Hi all,

How is your Friday going? We have a lot of cleaning and ebaying to catch up on over the weekend. But before all of that starts I'm going out for dinner tonight with a friend at Red Lobster. My parents always seem to scoff at RL (to their credit they are food snobs) and while it's not my favorite chain restaurant, I do love their food. And it's within walking distance from work so I can't complain. What's your favorite place to eat?

Happy Friday!

swirly dress

Hi all,

Today's dress is another one of my Florida finds. Today I wanted a no-fuss easy outfit, and I immediately thought of this new purchase. About a month ago I saw this dress on Ideeli, but I had previously bought a dress by the same designer and I had to go up 2 sizes, so I didn't want to buy it online and have the same problem (not to mention paying $10 for shipping. Ugh Ideeli, don't get me started). When I saw it in Florida I knew I had to at least try it on. And guess what-it's a size smaller than I normally get! I really hate how inconsistent and wonky sizing can be these days. But anyway, the dress was less expensive and I got to see it in-person, so win win for me!

Do you all have better luck shopping when you're traveling? I'm convinced I only have better luck because I have to stuff everything into a suitcase (or two, thanks SouthWest) on my way back.

D had to dress "up" for work today ("up" meaning no jeans), and he kindly let me turn the camera on him. Doesn't he look spiffy? My man is mixing colors and patterns (brown/black and the different stripes on the shirt/pants). I approve :)

Happy Thursday!

Boots: Nordstrom Rack
Necklace: Stella & Dot via Craigslist
Jacket: Coldwater Creek

On D:
Jacket and pants: Old Navy
Shirt: Macy's, I think
Shoes: Michael Kors via 6pm

mixing leopards

Good afternoon all,

I'm making an effort to update every day this week. Of course now that I said that I probably jinxed myself, but for now daily posting is my February resolution.

My other resolution is to quit buying multiples! Ok, not really because you know I couldn't possibly achieve that goal. I have this skirt in 4 colors. Who possibly needs 4 pleated skirts? Hi, that's me. I got them on clearance (plus an additional 40% off) so they ended up costing me about $25 each. Cost aside, I might have issues :)

So how is your Wednesday going? Does it feel like the middle of the week? It's still unseasonably warm here (hence the bare legs again) and I'm loving it.

I also love that I used a paper clip to show off these earrings. I couldn't find anything else to hang them on ;)

Happy Wednesday!
